Why and how to add a new post to Google my Business

What started out in 2016 as a way for presidential candidates to share their details on google has now transformed into a really useful tool for businesses looking to increase traffic and conversions. If you haven’t heard of Google Posts yet, that may be because it doesn’t have an official name but believe us, it is something you should consider in your journey to dominate the search engine landscape.

As you can see in the image above, the last two posts are blogs. In this instance, we are trying to drive more traffic to our blog and the website. If visitors go direct to this then they might learn something useful which will in turn build trust.

Promote products or events

There are four options in Google posts, you can link to new information, promote an event, promote a product or promote an offer. Depending on your business model you want to pick the one that is right for you. Don’t forget that if you are adding something to Google itself, it must have an impact on what the search engine thinks of you and what you do.

How to add a new Google Post?

As far as we can work out there are two ways to post. You can either do a search on your brand name and if you are logged in to Google the option to post will be in the search results and look like this: 

The second option is to go to Google my business and select your brand. You can then click “add new post“. It really couldn’t be simpler, just add an image, a catchy title and agree your call to action. The option to promote an event comes with simple calendar options as does the offer section with voucher codes and closing dates.

Once you have posted a few times, it is time to measure your success or failure and develop a strategy going forwards. This data is available in the Google My Business pages under “Insights”.
